The Ladies Captains race report from August 2004

I hope to be able to cover everything, only I have been busy with personal problems and have not been to many races lately myself due to injury, but however that seems to be on the mend now (fingers crossed). I had been preoccupied with Eric too, as you all are aware of the sad news. We will all miss him, a well liked and supportive club member. Eric was also a very good friend; he had done lots for me in the past,
and he was always there to give a willing hand. Still seems a bit hard to take in as it was so sudden.

However the ladies seem to be running particularly well lately, with improvement all the time. At Ekiden we managed to defend our title by winning the ladies vets team.
(Team consisted of Indie, Sue M, Susie, Rita, Caroline Porter and I).

Mum and daughter Sue McKay and Kim Chatting are running well and improving.
Kim had just missed out on her silver standard for the Mersea 10, but had still done a P.B (I think). Sue was 2nd in the Harwich 5k series this year, well done Sue!

Becky McCorquodale has rejoined the club and has improved tremendously; she has received quite a few standards this year. Becky will be another useful candidate for the cross-country.

Rita has been training hard this year and doing very well. She ran the Welling Garden City 10, which I believe she hadn't done that much training for but managed to complete. She seems very enthusiastic; hopefully she will be just as keen in the cross country.

I missed the Langham and Dedham 10k again this year, it happens every time. Jon doesn't mind though, as he doesn't enjoy either of them really, but then again he done Langham just for something to do. There was a very good turn out from the club that day, again the ladies having a decent run, Susie, Lyn Foster, Becky, and Caroline Porter. I spoke to Sally; she was saying she had knocked 3 minutes off her time at Dedham compared to last year, by the sounds of it Andy had pushed her round.

Barbara had got herself a diamond standard at the Diss 15, Lindsay apparently got 1st in her age category there. The two ran together, until Lindsay decided to shoot off and beat the lady just in front of her.

One other lady to mention who is achieving her standards lately is Lyn Foster, participating in lots of races.

I think that's about it for now, apologies if I have missed anybody. Please don't forget cross countries ladies, we done really well last season. We can do it again!

Bye for now. Love Nikki.
